New York City Ideas

Posted by Liz Peterson on January 26, 2009

Kyle and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary in March. We are probably going to NYC. We need some suggestions as to what to do.

We will have 4 full days in the city and will be staying in a hotel in Times Square.

Please Note:
I have been to NYC multiple times and have done a lot of things (Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn at night to see NYC and the Brooklyn Bridge lit up, etc).

Kyle and I spent 1 full day and 1 night in NYC this past summer. We walked through Times Square at night, took one of those double-decker Greyhound tours (but it was rainy so we hardly left the bus), saw Legally Blonde: The Musical on Broadway, and went to Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center.

UPDATE: Kyle and I decided NOT to go to NYC in March.  We are hoping to go a little later in the year.

Funny Stories About Parents and Technology

Posted by Kyle Peterson on January 21, 2009

I read this short story yesterday and it had Liz and I cracking up for a longt time.  I am in no way insinuating that either of our parents, nor any other parents that we know, act in this sort of way (have to protect myself from backlash :P ).  I could just really imagine a parent acting this way and couldn’t resist posting it!

My dad thinks that every cell phone that rings when we are out in public is his. No matter what the ring tone is. His ring tone is set to a generic ringring/ringring tone, but anytime someone’s phone rings, even if it’s playing a song like ‘Lean Back’, he fumbles around in his pocket trying to dig it out, then immediately flips it open without even looking at the caller I.D. and yells ‘HELLO? HELLO?’ then holds the phone away from his face, gets a confused look and says ‘Must have dropped the connection.’

While I Wait…

Posted by Liz Peterson on January 14, 2009

Here are three of the big things I am waiting for:

  1. Job.  I have been applying to jobs in the criminal justice field since January 2008.  (You can read about some of my experiences here and here).  Most of my applications received no response, but one (for my dream job, no less) led to an interview, a job offer, and a background investigation.  I know that I have the job, now I am just waiting for a start date.
  2. Volunteer.  Since I am in waiting mode for my dream job, I decided to try to volunteer/intern at a criminal justice agency.  Due to the economy, a lot of agencies weren’t accepting volunteers (even though I would be working for free, they would still have to pay for a background check).  Through contacts from other agencies, I found one that would let me volunteer.  So, I put in my application (two months ago) and am now waiting for a “swear-in” date so I can begin.
  3. School.  Although I am currently a graduate student at UNF (read about it here, here, and here), I have applied to another school that has an online Masters program geared toward my occupational goal of becoming an intelligence analyst.  I just submitted my application and have to wait until around mid-March for an answer.  I am hoping I get in because this program is perfect for what I want to do in life.

So, there you have it.  I am currently waiting on three of the most important things in my life.  I hope to have some answers soon!

Happy New Year!

Posted by Liz Peterson on January 3, 2009

It is now the third day of 2009!  Wow, time is flying!  2008 was a wonderful year for Kyle and I and I hope 2009 is just as wonderful.

Hopefully we will have some big changes to announce soon (NOT a baby)!  Other than that, I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year!
