Before Kyle and I were married, he would do romantic things every now and then: bring me flowers when I didn’t expect them, give me homemade cards for the holidays, surprise me with a poem he wrote, etc. Since we got married a year and a half ago, and even a little before that, the romantic gestures died off. I have to admit that I am to blame as well. “Romanticism” works both ways!
Recently we decided that we would plan “surprise date days” (D-Days) for each other a few times a year. We put a $50 limit on it so we would have to be somewhat creative. This past Saturday (October 25th) I surprised Kyle with our first D-Day. Well, I told him the day in advance, but what we did remained a surprise!
Here’s a little recap (with pictures) of our first D-Day!
First, we went to Panera and had bagels for breakfast. I figured it would be a nice, light way to start the day. We then went to The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens in Riverside. We went about five years ago with one of our college classes. But, it was a lot different when there were 20 people walking the museum together! I figured we could enjoy things more thoroughly with it being just the two of us. We ended up spending two and a half hours walking around the museum and gardens. Then, we went to The Loop Pizza Grill for lunch. Kyle and I went there for our first date over six years (wow, six years!) ago!

Are you really ever to old to have a sleepover? I don’t think so!
Krista had the idea that some of us married ladies should get together and have a sleepover, just like in 8th grade except it would be for “big girls.” If it was so much fun back then, what would make it any less fun now? Nothing! And, I’m sure our husbands can survive one night without us!
So, Krista, Erica, Brittany, Cassidy, and I are trying to find a time to get together. It should be a lot of fun. We can pig out, watch movies, and have girl talk. We are all in our early/mid-twenties and have been married less than four years. I’m sure we’ll find something to talk about! Haha!

With Christmas approaching quickly (it’s only some odd number of days away, you know?) I have been thinking about past Christmases. Christmas is a big holiday in my family. Growing up, we would record opening presents. It is always fun to look back at the tapes and remember how things used to be. Recently, Kyle brought up a funny story from Christmas 2007…
One warm winter day (it is Florida you know), Kyle and I were hanging out with my parents. We were driving around when all of a sudden my dad asked my mom if we were going to stop by Circuit City to pick up the Xbox (Kyle and I had asked them for an Xbox360, but didn’t think they would really get it for us). The next thing we hear is my mom saying, “Glennnnnnn!” and then my dad, knowing he ruined the surprise, saying… “Ohhhhh, boooooooyyyyyyyy!”
Maybe this is one of those times you just had to be there!

My 23rd birthday is a month from today. It’s on November 2nd- hint hint, wink wink- if you missed that!
Since Kyle’s birthday (March 23rd) is soon after our wedding anniversary (March 17th), we normally celebrate in a big way (last year we were in Charleston and this year we went to Las Vegas). My birthday usually takes the back seat. Although, last year we went to Orlando for the weekend to use some Universal Studios tickets we had received for Christmas 2006.
Anyway, Kyle and I were discussing what I wanted to do for my birthday. I thought of a couple ideas, but then I decided to do something different. I gave him complete control over my birthday! I told him that I want to be surprised (which does not necessarily mean a surprise party).
I am not usually good with surprises (meaning I want to know what they are in advance because I am excited, not meaning I don’t like surprises), but this time I am okay with waiting. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!
And, if he tells you, don’t tell me!
